Dear shogi-friends,
The WOSC 2005 in Pardubice, Czech Republic (15th-17th July 2005) had 64=20
participants. This was a significant increase compared to last year (53).=
=20
The most participants came from Ukraine (17).
Last year's winner Tsukasa Sera managed to win again this year, but this=
=20
year he lost against Hideki Tashiro in round 4 and finished with 8/9.
Second became Yuji Kikuta with also 8 points (only loss against Sera).
With 7 points followed 3 players, Hideki Tashiro, Manabu Terao and the best=
=20
European player, Gert Schnider. Schnider was lucky with the Swiss pairing=
=20
system, as he lost 2 times in early rounds an thus could score 4 wins in th=
e=20
last 4 rounds without playing against one of the strong Japanese players.
The group of the players with 6 points (ranging from place 6 to 16) was lea=
d=20
by the new European Champion Artem Kolomiyets, who only lost against the=
=20
strong Japanese players.
There were special prices awarded to the best young players and best female=
=20
players. Best under 18 years old was Victor Zapara (6 points, place 16),=
=20
best under 14 Andriy Malinovskyy (4 points, place 40), best under 10 Sofiya=
=20
Shevchuk (3 points, place 57) and best female player Kateryna Ivantsiv (3=
=20
points, place 55).
Already available are the rating results for the tournament, Asle Olufsen=
=20
did the calculations just before the prize giving ceremony.
Some players showed a big improvement, Peter Gedda (Sweden, +269 elo=20
points), Rikard Skotnicki (Sweden, +153) and Daniel Toebbens (Germany,=20
+117).
In some weeks there will be available also some of the games of the WOSC, I=
=20
have received and scanned in several scoresheets per round (about 7 per=20
round). Unfortunately the file sizes are quite big (jpg, ~550kB), so they=
=20
are too big to put them for download on Fesa-page. But I will put them in=
=20
Text-Format and you can download then.
