With Artem Kolomiyets from Ukraine we have a new European Shogi Champion.=

But let me present you some details.
This weekend (15th - 17th July 2005) the 21st European Shogi Championship=
=20
was played as an integral part of the ESC/WOSC 2005 event in Parduvice,=20
Czech Republic. The best 32 European players (players with European=20
citizenship) competed in a knockout tournament for the European championshi=
p=20
title.
Already the first 2 rounds brought some surprises. So for example Anthony=
=20
Stebbings (3k) managed to win against Richard Bjerke (1d) and Gert Schnider=
=20
(3d) in the first 2 rounds and Andreas Pietz (4k) knocked out Frank=20
Roevekamp (3d).

In the semi-finals Kolomiyets won against Mirnik and van Oosten won against=

Mirnik - Kolomiyets 0-1
In the final Artem Kolomiyets won against Arend van Oosten and become for=

the first time European SHogi Champion. He is also the first European Shogi=
=20
Champion from Ukraine and also from Eastern Europe.
In the match for 3rd place Boris Mirnik emerged as the winner.
