From: "Bernhard C. März" arcor de> Date: 30 may 2007 Subject: RE: Question about "leaving your king in check" Hi, Also I'm wondering very much about what Manabu wrote. I always thought and everywhere read, that it's not forbidden to leave=20 or move your king into check. (Oh, probably because I also own "Shogi=20 for Beginners" from Fairbairn.) Furthermore I remember one situation, where Gert Schnider played against= =20 a japanese Pro and he got time handicap. Gert become getting a loosing=20 position and finally he tried (the legal strategy) to win by time (by=20 making the game compliciate). And he was very close to it, but then he=20 was mate while the Pro still have an absolute minimum of time left. Then Gert says (with laughing), that still he could have a few=20 milliseconds because his opponent have to take his king. Of course this=20 was only in a funny way and Gert (as I hope all other players) didn't=20 like to win in this kind (still it was only a friendly game). But the thing I like to tell with this story, that even a dan-player=20 like Gert is thinking, that OFFICIALLY the opponent have to capture your= =20 king. Also I'm astonished that there are users'id of SC24 are deleted. Did=20 they "tried" to escape with there kings and hopped that there opponents=20 didn't recognize it? Or maybe I shouldn't play blitz-Shogi at late night when I'm sleepy,=20 because sometimes it could happen that I make such a wrong move. (But=20 I'm sure this deleted id's are of some other kind, more often with such=20 wrong moves. Or maybe if beginner learning the rules, they often make=20 such mistakes?) Oh, also I have to say that in blitz-chess it's not illegal and in this=20 variant you have to capture your opponents king. I'm unhappy, that the rules are not exact. :-( Bernhard Aquinaswannabe hotmail com wrote: >=20 > So, aside from issues regarding manner (which, of course, are=20 > important), there is no differenc in practice whether "leaving one's=20 > king in check" is technically illegal or not, because the person who=20 > leaves his king in check may lose anyway, as his opponent can capture=20 > his king in the very next move, correct? >=20 > Of course I'm not trying to test the limit of "bad manner." =3D) I'm= =20 > just asking for the sake of knowledge. >=20 > manabu.terao mx3 ttcn ne jp wrote: > >=20 > > It matters in your sense as well. > >=20 > > For example, I heard there are some users' id of SC24 have been > > deleted due to the fact that their Kings were repeatedly=20 > > captured without resignation.
