I trained with ShogiVariants when I was just a wee beginner (beat it from game 1, though :-) But the way the program shows you the possible moves is invaluable when trying to learn the pieces. And you can actually train simple attacking and mating techniques the way they are supposed to work ideally, with no inconsiderade opponent screwing it up for you.
