A small correction. Fumio Yamada is not an ISPS member. He is a caster of Igo-Shogi Channel now. He used to work for Yomiuri Shimbun as a shogi writer and contributed the realization of overseas Ryuoh-match before. > initiation last year :-)) Some young players came to see us after > having seen shogi sets and pieces in some mangas ! Can the mangas > help spreading shogi in western countries ? Possible :-)) Manga and anime surely help people recognize the existense of the game called "shogi". I'm showing you a clear example. According to google advance search on the condition that the language of search results should be in English, the keywords of "naruto shogi" gave the result of 37,000 pages. You can see the result here. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=shogi+naruto&lr=lang_en The amount of pages is much bigger than the result searched for "shogi habu" or "shogi meijin" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=shogi+habu&lr=lang_en http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_qdr=all&q=shogi+meijin&lr=lang_en NARUTO is on-aired weekly in various countries. Although the shogi scene is rare in the series, the impact of the episode 64 which seems decisive. I recommend you to have a look at it why lots of people who are watching it cannot help remembering the game called shogi. By the way, "Hachiwan Daibah"(81 diver) written by Yokusaru Shibata is becoming a fair hit recently as shogi manga in Japan. It is being published in serial form in weekly Young Jump and the volume 1 of comic version was published last December and I read it's going into a second printing. The story is about gamble-shogi players. According to the interview in the recent Kindai Shogi Magazine, the author's shogi strength is around 1800 in SC24. It's quite accepted by the people who are not at home with shogi very much. However, the positions used in the story satisfy the shogi fans as well since it's under supervision of Daisuke Suzuki(8dan). > A big part of the shogi success in the Festival is for Fusako Ajiki > and Asuka Ito : many people was looking at the Japanese ladies > wearing traditional kimonos. Florent Gorges had a lot of work during > those days, he needed to translate every explanations from Japanese > to French and questions from French to Japanese ! What a work ! > Thanks Florent. Yes. Flo did great job. He is an ideal interpreter since he speaks Japanese very fluently as well as likes to play shogi. I admit the two lady pro attracted some visitors. However, even if they did not visit the festival, the shogi initiation to visitors would have succeeded anyway since there had always been native exhibitors due to the effort of volunteers from French shogi federation. Almost all visitors to Game Festival are looking for something new and interesting. Shogi itself has attractiveness and it's natural for shogi to be the game which some of them want to encounter there if it is explained properly in their local language.
