The reason for generating ECO is very simple. There are so many=20 chess-games available. This ECO index help you finding the games you=20 like to study. For example in Shogi maybe you prefer the Anaguma castle. So maybe you=20 like to find all games where one side played this castle to study it. Or maybe you prefer the quick-attack with climbing Silver. So it would=20 be a big advantage for you, if you can identify the games to this=20 category and you can study it. I still have had written a program which can categorize games, but it=20 will need much time for big game collections and it's looking more nice=20 by such an index-system as ECO. By the way: would it be possible to download all games played at SC24??? This would be an important thing for an index-system. When you have=20 thousands and more games, it's important to have an index-system that=20 you will find the games which are interestingly for you.
