The state-of-art opening strategies many professionals= =20 > adopt to play were developed after 1990. Jiro Kato published "Shogi=20 > Senpo Daijiten" in 1985 which is somewhat similar to ECO. But there is= =20 > no follower of his work. thanks for this info. With it I found an earlier post in this shogi list, very similar to=20 mine: Subject: Encyclopedia of Shogi Openings http://www.shogi.net/shogi-l/Archive/2004/Nnov28-02.txt But still it's difficulty (and money expensive) to buy Japanese books=20 and also more difficulty to read it without able to speak Japanese. I hoped for an internet page. ;-) > ... > As you see replaying the both games linked above, the "theme position"= =20 > of the 39th move is possible with both P7g-7f and P2g-2f as the 1st=20 > move. The lines to the 39th move of the both games are different. So do= =20 > almost all the games with the position. I'm not sure if I misunderstood you, or maybe if you are not familiar=20 with ECO. In ECO the exact move-order is NOT (!!!) interesting. So for example you can read the following line: C50 Italian Game; C50 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4=20=20=09 But when you start the game maybe with 1.Nf3 (A04 Reti; Zukertort; A04)=20 and then Nc6, it's the ECO-opening A04: A04 Lessing Defense 1.Nf3 Nc6=20=20=09 But if the game continues in this way 2.e4 e5 3.Bc4 you still have the=20 Italian Game with the ECO-number C50: 1.Nf3 Nc6 2.e4 e5 3.Bc4 =3D> also C50 In German we say "Zugumstellung" but I didn't know English translation=20 (maybe "move conversion"). So in your example with this two games, they should of course get the=20 same Encyclopedia of Shogi Strategies Index-number. Creating an index for Shogi-Strategies (also you can see, that I didn't=20 wrote "Shogi-Openings" ;-) ) is not so easy, especially for me with a=20 small knowledge. Also I like to hear if others are interested in it,=20 because only for me it makes not much sense to make this work.
