My conclusion is that "leaving one's king in check" has been illegal=20 long before it's written as one of the examples of illegal moves in Shogi=20 Guidebook. Theoretically, on the assumption that capturing King is not=20 allowed in shogi, it's quite natural that "leaving one's king in check"=20 is illegal. If it's legal, checkmate becomes meaningless.
