I checked the following four books for complete novices. "Yoku Wakaru Shogi" by Yasuo Harada,=20 fist edition =3D 1970, Tokyoshoten "Shogi Nyumon Izen" by Akiko Takojima,=20 first edition=3DJanuary 1977, JSA "Hayawakari Shogi Nandemo Nyumon" by Yasuo Harada and Chuko Tanabe,=20 first edition=3DJanuary 1983, Shogakukan=20 "Etoki Shogi Nyumon" by Kenji Iino,=20 first edition =3D January 1983, Ikeda Shoten They do not mention to the move of leaving your king in check although=20 it's considered illegal. Every book says checkmating opponent's King=20 ends a shogi game with victory. No book says that taking opponent's king= =20 closes a game.
