From: Daniel Toebbens gmx de> Date: 24 jul 2007 Subject: Call for data I've always had an interest in statistical matters, and one subject in particular is the rating in shogi. A few years ago there was a discussion here in the list regarding the relation between the ratings in Shogi Dojo24 and the PanAtlantic list. The proportionality found at that time was based on about 30 players and afaik is still in use. However, a few years is a lot of time on the web, with 10 of 1000 games played in Dojo24. The PanAtlantic system also saw a few changes in the meantime, especially the drop of the lowest rating from 400 to 1. Because of this, I would like to do a new comparison, based on actual data and with some extra attention towards reliability of the respective ratings. For this I ask everybody who wants to contribute, to send some data to my private e-mail-address: 1) Rating in PanAtlantic list 2) Rating in Dojo24 3) Number of games played in rated games for 1) and 2) 4) Nationality and/or place of residence 5) Region, where you generally play in PanAtlantic tournaments (i.e. New York, Scandinavia, Germany, Eastern Europe, ...) 6) Time-control in Dojo24, do you play normal, long or short games 7) 'Seriousness' of your RATED games in Dojo24 - anything on the scale between 'as serious as real live tournaments' to 'playing when coming home from an all-night college party' 8) Handle in ShogiDojo 9) Name 10) Other information you might consider usefull (i.e. other ratings) The first two points are mandatory, of course, since they form the backbone of the analysis. Everything else is complete-if-you-want. Points 3)-7) would allow for more detailed insights. If a trend could be found, it would give the individual player an estimation more correct to his or her specific case. 8) and 9) would allow me to updata the data at a later date. I will send the result of the analysis to the list, but of course fully anonymized: Only the rating pairs 1) and 2) will be given as raw data, for everything else only overall results will be posted. The raw data from 3) - 10) will not leave my computer. Ever. Please also note, this is strictly for privat interest and has no relation to any official equations used by the FESA or any other organisation. This said, I hope on enough contributions for a statistically meaningful result. Daniel -- Ist Ihr Browser Vista-kompatibel?
