Yes, that would work. I still slightly prefer my suggestion (mainly because it is slightly more human-readable), but if the other format is already widely used, it's of course better to use that one. I wait for more opinions from the Japanese part of the community before I make any final decision about encoding of positions and moves. I still hope to avoid using the multi-line kifu format for positions, but perhaps it would be better to use the kifu piece letters instead of the English ones ("FU" instead of "P" for pawns, "KY" instead of "L" for lance, and so on). I have no particular preference here - both are OK to me. The same goes for board coordinates: I don't mind whether we use "1a" or "11" for white's left corner square.
