From: Reijer Grimbergen yz yamagata-u ac jp> Date: 21 aug 2007 Subject: Universal Shogi Interface implemented Hi all, It was just announced on Yamashita's BBS that the Universal Shogi Interface that was proposed by Tord Romstad has been implemented. The program is called "Shogidokoro" and provides an environment like Arena to match different shogi programs. The URL (in Japanese) is here: http://www.geocities.jp/shogidokoro/ I was very surprised to see something that is obviously very, very good so quickly. Even though there are only very few programs that can connect to this interface, I think this program has the potential to become the standard soon, just like Arena for computer chess. I have worked on the interface of Spear for many years, but after looking just a few minutes at this new program, I am seriously considering to throw it away and make Spear one of the engines that can be used with this new program. I am really impressed.
