Try installing jre with multilanguage support -- (as for JRE1.5.0 installer for Windows) in installer there is screen with jre components you can install. It's a tree stucture with two branches. As far as i know* first branch is minimalistic jre. Second branch is 'Japanese-language-suport'. By default only items from first branch are selected. Mark the second one too and proceede with install. You may also need some Japanese font. One option is to enable support for eastern languages (winXP). Or download some font and copy it to system font directry. There are plenty of them for free on the Internet. My personal favourite site is http://www.wazu.jp/gallery/Fonts_Japanese.html Simply download wanted font, unpack it and copy to the WINDOWS\Fonts directory. Kifu applet can be used even when You see only boxes. Buttons on the top of the screen are (from left to right): start position, play backward, one step back, one step forward, play forward, last postion (sealed move) and last indented is flip board. Hope this will help a little. Have a nice day.
