From: Manabu Terao mx3 ttcn ne jp> Date: 11 oct 2006 Subject: Re: Nintendo DS software incl. shogi( about Shogi Jisan) Hello shogi fans, I think it is an epoch-making event for shogi to be available in Nintendo DS software of "42 All-time Classics" and "Clubhouse Games" in the history of shogi localization. The sales volume of Nintendo DS hardware OUTSIDE JAPAN has=20 already exceeded 10 million sets since released. The sales volume in Japan has also exceeded 10 million sets. The sales volume of "Dokodemo Asobi Taizen"(Japanese version=20 of "42 All-time Classics" and "Clubhouse Games) has exceeded 550 thousand copies. In consideration of sales volume of DS hardware outside Japan,=20 the sales volume of "42 All-time Classics" and "Clubhouse Games" may reach 500 thousand in one year or two. I think most people won't purchase the software because it=20 includes shogi. They will purchase it since they are more or less interested in what games Nintendo considers "All-time Classics". Most of them has been unaware of the existence of shogi and it will be their first experience to encounter shogi with rule description in their LOCAL LANGUAGE or Westernized Language at least. I'm sure the software will play an significant role to let people to get to know and try to play shogi. The software supports Wi-Fi connection. Although the shogi strength of the software is poor, the users can play a human to human shogi game. Regarding the shogi Manga, there is an information that Chika=20 Umino, who is famous as the writer of "Hachimitsu to Clover", will write a manga with theme of shogi. I will come back to you if it's started. As to translation of Manga into local language, it may be interesting to= =20 read the following article. "Progress Against the Law: Fan Distribution, Copyright, and the Explosive G= rowth of Japanese Animation" by Sean Leonard http://web.mit.edu/seantek/www/papers/progress-columns.pdf (in English) Also, it may be interesting as well to read the Wikipedia Page of "Fansub" = at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fansub (in English) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fansub (in French) Several broadcasting companies in Japan have lots of Shogi contents. I wond= er if there is a good way to be available to see them in your languages. Maybe= it will be done by Fansub, maybe not.
