If both players know it, I think the older player will use King General. I don't know what will happen if the both players age is exactly the same to the extent of birth time.=20 If neither players know it, I think the player who takes Jade General first in initial set-up will use Jade General. If one player knows the practice and the other don't, then it depends on if the player who know the pracice will give advice to the player who don't. If one gives the advice and the other accept it, then the older player will use it. But I don't know how often this is happening. If not, then I think the player who take Jade General first in initial set-up will use Jade General. When I first learned shogi from my father at the age of six or seven, he to= ld me how to set up pieces initially, how each piece would move and the object= of the game(checkmate). But he did not tell me about the practice simply because he did not know it. I learned the practice sometime when I was a junior high school student from a shogi magazine. Until that time, I enjoye= d thousands of casual games for fun with my neighbors and schoolmates and I= =20 did not care which player should use Jade General at all since nobody cared= .
