It will encourage strong amateur players= =20 to work hard on their game in the hope of becoming pros. Can you tell us which amateur (or lady pro) players in the past few= =20 years might have qualified for this examination? I recall that two of my= =20 "amateur" teachers had even records in official games against pros=20 (something like 4-4 each I believe) but this was nearly twenty years ago.= =20 Probably others have similar records now. This will be a very historic change to widen the narrow gate. Who could be entitled for the examination? There are reportedly two possibilities. One is to judge from the performance of official games with pro players which means Ryuo, Asahi, Kio, Shinjino and Ginga matches in the current tournament system for amature players and plus Oza, Oui, Kisei and NHK TV tournaments for Ladies pro. The other is the winner of the newly created tournament among the winners of the major six ama tournaments. I'm sure that Ama Ryuo, Ama Meijin, Asahi Ama Meijin, Ama Osho tournaments will be included in the major six, but I'm not sure what tournaments will be the rest two. The proposition will be discussed in the coming regular general meeting of JSA scheduled in May.
