Hann. M=FCnden is a small town between G=F6ttingen and Kassel in the Middle=

of Germany. It is situated in a "romantic" setting: completely=20
surrounded by forests and hills in the valley where the rivers Werra and=

Fulda join to form the river Weser. Over 700 half-timbered buildings=20
dating back six centuries, fortified towers and remains of the old City=20
Wall bear witness of the pride and wealth of the town's former citizens.=

Alexander von Humboldt, the well-known poet, is said to have called=20
Hann. M=FCnden "one of the seven most beautifully situated towns in the=20
world". Hann. M=FCnden has a long and interesting history based on trade,=

crafts and shipping industries. It has many tourist attractions and is=20
worth a visit with the whole family.
For more than a hundred years, the Tilly Entrenchment Tower=20
("Tillyschanze") has been rising from the Reinhard forest above the=20
roofs of the town. The tower was built 1881-1885 in memory of Count=20
Tilly who had positioned his cannons underneath today's tower in 1626=20
during his siege of the town in the 30-year War. The tower measures 25 m=
=20
in height and a viewing platform can be reached via 129 steps. From here=
=20
you have a magnificent view of the old town and the surrounding range of=
=20
wooded hills. The Tilly Tower can be reached on foot within 20 minutes=20
from the town center.

It is possible to have meals (home-style cooking) at the Restaurant=20
close to the Tillyschanze. I propose that we have dinner at that=20
restaurant. If you are late on Friday, please give us a phone call so=20
that we can either wait for you or know that you will join us later. It=20
will be easy to find the way to the tower on your own as we will leave=20
shogi signs on the way! You can not go there by car (you need a special=20
permission), but you can take a taxi though.
