But also for the first time we had less than 20 participants. This year only 9 shogi players found their way to Hannover. Next year we shall move the tournament into November again to make sure tha= t we have bad weather. When playing 7 rounds with 9 participants, only the very best can avoid a BYE. The only players, who had to work heavily have been Frank R=F6vekamp, = who made a perfect score and Jochen Drechsler, who lost only to Frank. Frank R=F6vekamp is therfore the new german Open Shogi Champion. Several of the games have been very exciting and all players had a lot of fun and at least one positive result. Noticable again was Jean-Francois Pinto, who seems to establish himself right behind the top in tournaments. It is time for him to start beating the big guys (3. Dan and 4. Dan). I do hope we will have some more participants next year.
