I would expect that the ratio would be more like one hundred to one= =20 in favor of Japan. Even allowing for the fact that many people leave=20 nationality blank (and perhaps a few even lie), this seems incredible. I= =20 would guess that the number of US citizens who are registered on ShogiDojo= =20 is less than one hundred, whereas nearly 900 list the US as their residence= =20 according to your website. We do have many Japanese in the US at any given= =20 time, mostly those who are here for work or school for 2-4 years, but still= =20 this seems ridiculous! Could it be that Japanese in Japan prefer to play= =20 live opponents (generally), whereas those in the US generally have no other= =20 option (unless they are in a city with a club, and even then it's normally= =20 just once a week). Does anyone else have any other theory to explain the incredibly tiny= =20 3-1 ratio? But it is more interesting to know that a lot of European countries have shogi players.
