If you can read Japanese, the YSS results are on this page= : http://www32.ocn.ne.jp/~yss/24rating.html Even if you can not read Japanese there is some interesting info on this page. The graph at the top shows how YSS's rating changed during the 52 games. The graph at the bottom shows how the YSS rating changed over the years. Extending this graph will mean that YSS will be the top club24 performer in less than five years... (not enough data to be sure, of course.) The problem (in my opinion) is not lack of data, but the question of= =20 diminishing returns. The rapid progress of computer hardware (doubling in= =20 speed every 1 1/2 years for about two decades) seems to have ended, and=20 shogi software will presumably be much harder to improve from its present= =20 level than from its former one. So I think it will take longer than an=20 extrapolation would predict. > Would you expect it to be relatively weaker with the 15min + 60 byoyomi= =20 > time control? > I have no idea, but my guess would be that it would not make that much difference. I think that to topple computers, long term strategies are needed combined with careful execution. 15'+60" sounds to fast for me to do this with a consistently high chance of success. I have to disagree here. All experience with chess and shogi computers= =20 vs. humans is consistent on one point; the faster the time limit, the bette= r=20 for the computers. About a year or two ago I found that I could generally= =20 beat the best program at the NHK time limit, but would lose badly at 10" pe= r=20 move and had mixed results at intermediate levels. 15' +60" is roughly=20 triple the quick time limit, which aids human players much more than=20 computers. My guess would be that the computer would rate at least a hundre= d=20 points lower at that level.
