Robin was the new Swedish Junior Shogi Champion and=20 also the best player below 11-kyu. He also scored a good eighth position= =20 and rocketed up to 7-kyu directly. Martin and Tobias started to play in=20 February. They are part of a small junior activity, which I have started= =20 during the spring at Vallhamra library in Savedalen outside Goteborg. Marti= n=20 (the best beginner in the Swedish Shogi Championship 2005) was very close= =20 to a sensational victory against Tord Juntti in round 3. Both these beginne= r=20 juniors improved after every game they played. The shogi rockets: Together with Robin, Daniel also won a rating prize. Daniel won against And= ers=20 and Robin in the first rounds, and then he had to play the top players. The ELO winner: Magnus Benzein was not afraid of anyone, and he won against Per and Peder i= n=20 his only second shogi tournament.=20 Thriller number 1: The number 1 thriller this year was performed at the top board in round 4.= =20 Nils had created a won position against Peter but he could not find a coupl= e=20 of tsume continuations. Peter turned the tables and won. After that, Peter= =20 cruised to win the tournament, while Nils never recovered and lost to Jan= =20 Palmgren and Christer, despite having the chance to win the kyu position= =20 in the Swedish team with a hypothetical victory in the last game. Thriller number 2:=20 The "old" Kaneko was back in the game against Christer Hartman. Peter had= =20 started with four consecutive victories, and now there was "just" one victo= ry=20 left to win against Christer. In the middle of a fine combination he wasted= =20 the game with 35 minutes left on his clock and lost. Thriller number 3: Almost everything was as usual in the game between Christer and Martin. But= =20 this time Christer had prepared himself very well before the game: no alcoh= olic=20 beverages in the night before the game, early positioned in his favourite= =20 chair at the board and prepared with a new variation against nakabisha,=20 where Martin against his better judgement did not play the recommended cont= inuation=20 according to "The Art of Shogi". Yet Martin won after a tough game in a=20 somewhat even but difficult position. When the tension had reached its maxi= mum,=20 Christer dropped a double pawn (nifu). "It is not possible at shogidojo. com", as Christer correctly remarked. Martin won his seventh ELO game out= =20 of seven against Christer. The Swedish "Bobby": In mutual byo-yomi, Robert had forgotten to press his clock in a won positi= on against=20 Peder in round 1. Both (!) players think that the clock sound is from Peder= =B4s=20 clock, and he plays his move with eight seconds left for Robert and presses= =20 the clock for the second time. Robert reacts to the continued beeping despi= te=20 having seen Peder moving, takes a look at the clock, grabs a piece, drops= =20 it at the board, and presses the clock with two seconds left before the=20 disastrous time forfeit. After that, Robert wins after a few more moves.= =20 "Apparently, I saved you there", as the surprised Peder commented the event= . The two best players: Despite all thrillers, the two best players in the tournament qualified for= =20 the Swedish Shogi Championship play-off, May 5 to 8, in Goteborg in paralle= l=20 with the chess tournament Goteborg Open. Peter and Christer were the two= =20 logical favourites in advance, because of the strength of play that they= =20 have shown both at the board and at shogidojo.com.=20 Challenger Final: Game 1 Peter Kaneko vs Christer Hartman Thu May 5 10.00 Game 2 Christer Hartman vs Peter Kaneko Thu May 5 14.00 Game 3 Peter Kaneko vs Christer Hartman Thu May 5 18.00 (if no player=20 has won the two first games; furigoma) Swedish Championship Final: Game 1 Carl Johan Nilsson vs The Challenger Final winner Fri May 6 10.00= =20 Game 2 The Challenger Final winner vs Carl Johan Nilsson Fri May 6 16.00= =20 Game 3 Carl Johan Nilsson vs The Challenger Final winner Sat May 7 10.00= =20 Game 4 The Challenger Final winner vs Carl Johan Nilsson Sat May 7 16.00= =20 (if no player has won three games) Game 5 Carl Johan Nilsson vs The Challenger Final winner Sun May 8 10.00= =20 (if no player has won three games; furigoma) The situation regarding the qualification for the Swedish team for the 3rd= =20 International Shogi Forum in Tokyo, October 22 to 23 is: If Nilsson will win the Swedish Shogi Championship play-off: 1. Nilsson 2. Kaneko 3. Hartman If Kaneko will win the Swedish Shogi Championship play-off: 1. Kaneko 2. Additional dan player play-off match (best of three games): Nilsson vs= =20 Danerud (the second best dan player), May 14 to 15 3. Hartman If Hartman will win the Swedish Shogi Championship play-off: 1. Hartman 2. Additional dan player play-off match (best of three games): Nilsson vs= =20 Kaneko, May 14 to 15 3.
