Why wouldn't you want a program to even out who gets first move? Yes, moving first is an advantage (roughly 52-48), but in amateur tournaments it is generally felt that this is not enough of a factor to justify distorting the pairings to equalize colors. But I realize that some= players might hold a different opinion on this point. In club play in Japan= , moving first is the "handicap" for a 1 rank difference, but of course it is= not nearly enough of an advantage to equalize the chances. In the Pan-Atlantic rating system, we do consider colors when they are assigned, rather than chosen by lot.
