Last weekend the Austrian Shogi Open was played in Graz. Unfortunately there were this time only 9 participants. Mostly the strong Austrian players were missing (eg. Gert Schnider). The clear winner of the tournament was Andreas Neumaier, who won all his six games. After winning in 5th round against Thomas Pfaffel no one could stop him from winning the tournament. On 2nd place finished Thomas Pfaffel with 4 points in front of Jeff Stroud and Horst Schmied, who scored 4 points too. The 3 best Austrian players (Neumaier, Pfaffel and Schmied) qualified for the Championship Playoff, where they will challenge last years champion Gert Schnider for the title in a knockout tournament.
