The venue had a=20 fresh atmosphere with a good light, so the conditions for good shogi=20 were there. The number of participants stopped at 13. That was of course a=20 disappointment, but there will be more participants next year in the=20 Swedish Shogi Championship in Goteborg 2005. Results: 1. Already in round 1, there were two surprises. Robert made an illegal=20 move and lost to Tord, and Martin did not find a simple defence against=20 Mikael=B4s panic attack in a clearly won position for Martin. In round 2, Carl Johan won what was going to become the deciding game=20 against Niklas. Niklas was reported having a good position in the game,=20 but Carl Johan managed to strike back. Mikael continued to score and=20 won against Nils. Thereby, Mikael was already a good candidate for one=20 of the play-off positions. The Saturday evening round was relatively free from surprises. Mikael=20 won his third consecutive game, when Robert in a lost position promoted=20 in his own (!) defense zone. Carl Johan won against Jonas, this time=20 easier than in their latest encounter in Goteborg Open. Peder played=20 his best game and had a better position against Niklas, but the later=20 could improve his situation and win. At the Saturday Swedish Shogi Federation yearly meeting, the following=20 board was elected: Martin Danerud, president, Robert Soderberg,=20 secretary, and Anders Sandberg, treasurer. Mikael Hansson is now not=20 only webmaster (http://shogi.hem.nu) but also auditor. The meeting also=20 decided to perform the one day event the Swedish Internet Cup during=20 the autumn. Mikael and Daniel Wredenberg will be the organisers. In the first Sunday round, Carl Johan won easily against Mikael in a=20 game, where the winner was already close to the play-off in Linkoping.=20 Niklas was once again fighting badly, this time against Daniel=20 Wredenberg, who however could not win the won position. Now, two more players lost the opportunity to reach the play-off:=20 Martin lost (for the first time ever) to Jan Rabe. Jan was really lucky=20 in this game, but that has happened to Martin before against Jan, so=20 now we are even. Jonas lost a tough and quick game to Nils. In round 5, two more players could stop dreaming about the play-off:=20 Nils lost to Carl Johan, and Jan lost to Niklas. Before round 6, Carl Johan was qualified for the play-off. Niklas and=20 Mikael played more or less a Challenger semifinal in their final game,=20 which was also a Vastervik derby. It is always difficult to win all=20 games in a tournament. When the victory is secured, you are already a=20 little bit satisfied. Robert had never before won a tournament game=20 against Carl Johan. Now, however, that happened, and Robert was so=20 happy. It is also difficult to win against a friend, if you know that=20 you usually lose to him, and Mikael followed his tradition and lost to=20 Niklas. Anyway, this tournament showed that traditions can be broken! Carl Johan Nilsson very much expectedly qualified for his fourth=20 Swedish Championship play-off. He has never succeeded to become the=20 Swedish Champion, but maybe this year will be his big triumph? Niklas=20 was of course a big surprise as a player in the Challenger Final, but a=20 player who in the first round of the European Championship at Ockero=20 could knock out a previous European Champion already in his fifth ever=20 tournament game is of course always a candidate in the future. Can he=20 continue to surprise in the play-off? Once again, it should be noted=20 that the participants in the autumn shogi course (Mikael, Niklas,=20 Daniel & Daniel, and Robert) scored very good results. However, that is=20 maybe the only positive thing for their teacher to note from this=20 tournament... Now, the Swedish Championship play-off in shogi and Linkoping Open are=20 upcoming. The venue is Linkoping University C building together with a=20 thousand participants in the yearly game convention at Linkoping. Daniel Ivarsson won his third consecutive Swedish Junior Shogi=20 Championship. Mikael Hansson was the best player below 5-kyu. Niklas=20 Alexandersson was the best player of those who had never player the=20 Swedish Championship tournament before. The following players were promoted: Jan Rabe to 5-kyu and Mikael=20 Hansson to 8-kyu.
