I am sure there is no English translation of this book. Tony Hosking=20 undoubtedly found it in the shogi library which he jointly owns with=20 Les Blackstock. As far as I know, Tony cannot read Japanese apart from=20 the kanji for the shogi pieces. That is enough, of course, to read=20 shogi game scores and all the opening variations in this book, but not=20 being able to read evaluations of positions is a problem. I think=20 "ordinary Westerners" (assuming that Tony Hosking falls into this=20 category) can get a lot of information from shogi opening books without=20 reading the comments, which are usually quite sparse anyway. The only=20 problem with "Shogi Senpo Dai Jiten" is that the theory is presumably=20 about 20 years out of date ...
