From: "T.Rogalski" access-4-free com> Date: 14 nov 2003 Subject: SSC rules clarification This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0034_01C3AACE.07CD8440 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The first two Shinjuku Shogi Club English rules of play state: "a. Taking back moves, and giving advice are prohibited. b. The usual rules of the Shogi Renmei apply: doubled pawns, dropped pawn mates and the dropping of pieces which cannot move, are all illegal. If a player makes an illegal move, he must change it. If he plays his next move without changing the illegal move, he loses the game." My understanding is that if a player makes an illegal move, he loses the game immediately, and is never allowed to "take it back". This is an aspect of the shogi rules that I always liked, yet the above appears to state a contradiction. Can anyone shed some light on this, or is this simple a case of poor English translation? BTW, there is no date on these rules, but it does list one of the professional teachers as Habu, 8-Dan, so clearly this translation is dated. Also, one of my games ended with me taking my opponent's king, when he made some other move while he was in check, and he raised no objection to his loss, just a little frustration at himself.
