From: gwshogi2 entermail net Date: 13 nov 2003 Subject: Re:D.C. Shogi Club I can personally attest to this. I've only had the pleasure of visiting once, but was made very welcome and had the shogi time of my life. The best thing is that Larry and the others enthusiastically give handicaps. All my games were at high handicaps and I lost all but one, but I definitely learned a lot. Lots of kibitzing and coaching, which was great! Thanks again, Larry, if you're reading this. Gary Whelan Hi Steve, Yes, the D.C. Shogi club meets every Thursday at Larry Kaufman's house from 7-11pm. Everyone is welcome. About four people are regular core members, but newcomers always receive preferential treatment. Last week a 3-Dan ranked player from New York visited the club. I can tell you from personal experience that it feels more difficult to receive 4-piece handicap from Larry than playing even against a 2-Dan in Shinjuku, so your shogi improvement will be rapid. Larry's house in Potomac, Md. has fewer distractions than a Japanese restaurant and is set-up to handle serious shogi. Please consider visiting at least once to ascertain this for yourself.
