From: Fark lawlink zzn com Date: 10 nov 2003 Subject: Shogi Server Hi all, I'm a chessplayer from Australia. My friend and I enoy writing chess engines, especially those that play wild variants. We were looking at writing a chess server at some stage, but the internet already seems to have a glut of chess servers, and unless we produce a finished product that is better than anything else available at the moment, the project would naturally fail. We were quite surprised at the fact that there doesn't appear to be a shogi server on the net at the moment. There may well be ones in Japan, but we cannot find them, nor would we be able to understand them if we did. I was wondering what your thoughts are on a shogi server that had a nice graphical interface with timestamp included, something quite similar to ICC (chessclub.com). Are people looking for something like this? Would it be worth our while to produce it? Are there many people who would be willing to help out with administrative duties once the site was up and running? Would it be capable of getting more than 100 players online at once? Would people like to run their shogi engines on it? I'd be interested in hearing all your thoughts on these matters, and others, if you'd like to share them with me. I've only just recently discovered Shogi and I quite like it. I find it's quite similar to the chess variant crazyhouse. Hopefully there is potential for a decent server for this interesting game.
