From: DANERUD MARTIN comhem se> Date: 5 nov 2003 Subject: Ryuo match, game 2, third and final report Dear shogi friends, Thus the action in Nagahama is over. Moriuchi won the second game and now leads the match 2-0 against Habu. Habu had sealed the most brave alternative 20. -P5f in order to open the game and create possibilities. The game became a classic fight for possibilities (aji), whereas both players probably realized all the time that the shape (katachi) of the generals around Habu's king was not good enough. In the end, Moriuchi, who played one-minute shogi in the last moves, found a devastating tsume attack. A traditional "guess-the-next-move" competition was organised for Moriuchi's 26th move R2i. However, almost half of the around 60 spectators found the played move (among those sincerely yours), so the fine prizes were very easy to win. I recommend all of you to take the chance to follow a title game on site, if you will have the chance. It is exciting and interesting, and during the many, many hours there is nothing better to do than trying to understand shogi properly. Another good detail is that you will get help from some of the best players in the world, this time it was Tanigawa-san and Abe-san among other, who entertained the audience. Now, I think that Habu should and will give up Yokofudori for a while. I guess that we will see Yagura or Shikenbisha or anything that is not Yokofudori in the next game. Habu will need to reconsider his defence shape in that opening, and that will take longer time than there is until the game next week (November 12 and 13).
