From: DANERUD MARTIN comhem se> Date: 3 nov 2003 Subject: Ryuo match, game 2, first report Dear shogi friends, During my round trip in Japan, I have now reached the shores of lake Biwako. The second game of the Ryuo match between Habu and Moriuchi will be played in Nagahama on November 4 and 5. I hope that Manabu Terao will provide you with a link to the live game later. Since my interest in shogi is bigger than my humble 2-dan strength, I will concentrate on bringing you my impressions and the atmosphere of this event. Nagahama is a small city of 40,000 inhabitants at the northeastern shores of lake Biwako, which in turn is situated norteast of Kyoto. The surroundings of Nagahama is a rural area, surrounded by mountains in the east and the great lake Biwako in the west. It is said that this calm lake is named after its resemblance to the shape of the Japanese lute, biwa. As you all know, Moriuchi won the first game of this Ryuo match. Now, obviously, Habu will need to strike back in order to avoid a difficult situation in the match. On the other hand, after the Meijin match this year between these two players, which Habu won 4-0, and knowing the Habu ability to come back in games as well as in matches, Moriuchi will never be able to take anything for granted in this match. As you may know, the prize money of the Ryuo match is very high. The winner gets 32 million yen.
