From: Yoshi Niwata SEA UCATV NE JP> Date: 27 may 2003 Subject: Re: [ISC Info.] ISC grade & Overseas member system Dear Bill and all, Your question is a very good point. To be honest, I HAVE an official certificate of 3Dan by applying the shogi questions in Shogi Sekai magazine for two years. But I play as 1Dan in Shogi Renmei DOJO which is more appropriate level for me to play (Shogi Renmei DOJO know about this). Therefore, I need the support from other ISC members who are much better than me to give an instruction, lessons and consider ISC grade to give. I would be happy to be called an organizer of shogi activity rather than an instructor who can work alone. In addition, we think "teaching" sometimes requires a different talent from "playing", for example, patience, repeat basics and enjoy supporting which could be difficult for some higher DAN people who are busy to improve himself. Anyway, the main customer for ISC are people who are 30kyu to 3kyu in overseas. Because people above 3kyu can already have some ideas how to improve and they can enjoy by themselves even in Shogi club 24. Then, we, of course care those people, but do not feel the accurate rating-DAN translate table is needed for them as ISC committee can judge by playing with them. Also, recommended rating on the table is just reference and the committee will judge finally depending on the case. Our grade table is still tentative and would be modified during the operation. Thank you very much for your understanding.
