From: Eric Cheymol FREE FR> Date: 14 jul 2003 Subject: MacShogi is out Hello, Second good news for shogi today : MacShogi is out ! MacShogi is a Shogi Database program for Mac OS X. The aim of MacShogi is to make a fully featured shogi database application such as the wellknown ChessBase, but for the Macintosh environment. The program can already help you to : - Enter new games and save them in the psn format - Load and replay games - Sort loaded games in any order (sente's name, gote's name, grades, event) - All rules are implemented and fully tested, illegal moves are not possible - make diagrams, you only need to copy and paste them in your magazine, book or article -- using the tendo shogi font or tendo+text, the latter one is useful to make the number of pieces correctly printed -- using text only for sending an email The playing over internet has been deactivated, it works fine but it need some time to make it more friendly. I made tests with many games (up to 30000, it should be enough for storing all your games of your life :-). The program can handle many more games, the limit is only the RAM amount. And I have ideas for improving the memory usage. With 30000, I keep the details of more than 3 million moves, to be able to switch from on move to the other immediately. MacShogi runs on Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) or more. I have not tested it on 10.1 or previous. But I use a feature introduced in Jaguar for the sorting feature. It is available here : http://echeymol.free.fr/macshogi/MacShogi.dmg The user manual is not written yet. I will do it shortly. If you already have downloaded MacShogi, you can update it now. MacShogi can read Matt Casters' Java Shogi Database games psn files (the following archives contain the same psn files) : http://echeymol.free.fr/matt/gsdb.20030714.psn.zip http://echeymol.free.fr/matt/gsdb.20030714.psn.tar.gz Except Tsume.psn (which has a specific format), MacShogi can read : Amateur.psn 1004 games Jozeki.psn 85 games Matt.psn 2 games Pros.psn 1130 games If you merge those files, you can get 2221 games in one place, sort and replay them ... The library list feature has helped me a lot for cleaning those games. MacShogi reads comments stored in the files but loses them if you save the library file. MacShogi can handle variations as well. But the user side is not implemented yet for those two features. If you have some comments, ideas for improvements ... send an email to me. The current todo list will already give work to me for many months :-)) Best Shogi wishes, Eric ---------------- Get the European shogi archives at http://echeymol.free.fr/
