IL Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 1:21 AM Subject: Shinjuku Shogi Center directions and information I have been able to piece together directions to (and information about) the Shinjuku Shogi center (SSC) in Tokyo, Japan: Shinjuku Shogi center 1-16-1 Imamiya building, 5th floor Kabuki-cho area, north-east Shinjuku Tokyo 03-3200-7332, telephone 03-3208-0040, telephone Hours: 10am-Midnight (handicap elimination tournament for first 16 players who arrive) It is less than a 10 minute walk from the Shinjuku subway station Exit the east side of the station Go north (left) toward the main street, Yasukuni-dori Go east (right) onto Yasukuni-dori toward Kabuki-cho area Cross over onto the north side of Yasukuni-dori, and look for SSC on your left (looking east) The SSC building is several buildings away from the Don Quijote discount store The SSC building directly faces the street, but still not easy to find The SSC building is situated on a small unnamed street corner A shogi symbol appears next to 5f on the building sign Another shogi symbol appears inside the building door The elevator is several meters inside the building, and not easily seen from outside If you still cannot locate the SSC, then politely call Richard Sams, 0422-42-4307. He has lived in Tokyo for 14 years and confirmed that the SSC is not easy to find if this is your first time to Shinjuku, even with someone's directions.
