From: Reijer Grimbergen FU IS SAGA-U AC JP> Date: 2 jul 2003 Subject: Kisei match game 3 Sato has successfully defended his Kisei title by winning game 3 of the best-of-five match against Maruyama, winning the match with an unexpected 3-0 score. The game was a difficult R8e-Yokofudori game that followed the final game of the 2001 Meijin match between Tanigawa and Maruyama for a long time. Maruyama won that game to defend the Meijin title, but couldn't convert this extra experience. Sato had prepared a new move that looked rather slow (47.P3e) but which surprised Maruyama enough to win the game. More on this game in next week's Shukan Shogi report.
