From: DANERUD MARTIN TELIA COM> Date: 25 apr 2003 Subject: I like Japanese people Do not misunderstand this e-mail intentionally: I like Japanese people. Dear Leon, There is of course a possibility to contact Japanese people in South Africa. But if you want shogi to become a game among the South Africans, then you should first create a strong national shogi organisation in your country. Otherwise, you will end up like our dear friends in America, acting in the best case as an organiser of spare time activities for Japanese expatriots. Of course, the Japanese will contribute with a lot of shogi strength, but as soon as there is a chance, they will move into Japanese restaurants, play and speak Japanese among themselves. There is nothing wrong with that and it is quite natural, but it will never result in any viable South African shogi activity. Follow my advice. It has worked well in Sweden. We have more than one hundred Swedish citizens as members of the Swedish Shogi Federation. The choice is yours. Sincerely yours, Martin Danerud President of the Swedish Shogi Federation > Is you club not interested in Shogi? I heard there are about 1,000 Japanese > people living in Johannesburg.
