From: Schnider UTANET AT> Date: 10 apr 2003 Subject: Re: 4th International Austrian Shogi Championship The grades in Europe and especially in Austria, where our Association is only 3 1/2 years old, are not always reflecting a players true strenght. Some of our players are fast improving and playing much stronger than their grades. To give another player as example: Rainer Staberhofer, at that time 4kyu, won the individual tournament at the German Team Championships in Munich with 5 out of 5 beating a 1dan and a 2dan there. Anyway I have to congratulate Andreas Neumaier who is the first Austrian to beat me in an even game tournament and I think this clearly marks the progress our players are making.
