Last weekend the 4th International Asutrian Shogi Championship took place in Graz. With 12 participants we had unfortunately a decrease in the number of participants compared to 18 participants last year. But with Vojtech Hrabal from Czech Republic and Jochen Drechsler from Munich we could also welcome two foreign players. The big suprise of the tournament was Andreas Neumaier (2k). After winning against Jochen Drechsler in round two, he managed to win in round four against Gert Schnider. This was Gert's first defeat in a tournament game in Austria! So after 4 rounds Andreas was the single leader. But unfortunately Andreas lost his 2 remaining games against Marco Dietmayer and Thomas Pfaffel, although he had a winning position in both games. So Gert Schnider emerged again as the winner of the tournament with 5 points out of 6 rounds. With 4 points following were Andreas Neumaier, Marco Dietmayer and Thomas Pfaffel. This 4 players will compete in a playoff next month for the Austrian Championship Title. Find below the tournament table with rating results.
