There actually is a top amateur invitation tournament that is called
"Grand Champion". If I remember correctly, this is an invitation
tournament where all amateur title holders are invited (including the
university champions). I don't have the results of the recent tournament
at hand, but it is quite likely that Shimizugami won that tournament as
university Meijin and thus earned the title "Grand Champion" (or more
precise "Gurando Chanpion" :-) ).
