Subject: Symbols

This might be a stupid question (but then I never claimed to be
intelligent ;). I learnt shogi essentially from the program "Shogi
Variants" and on that they have certain symbols on the koma as the name of
that piece. However when I looked at my manga "Ayumu no koma" it has that
same symbol with another symbol below it, I was wondering what the extra
character is supposed to be (differs on different komas).
