Who's rating system would you use? The ICC system would be fine. Basically ShogiDojo is using the same system once players are established. The difference is only in the handling of new players. They are started at some arbitrary number (the same for everyone, as with Yahoo), but the gain/loss per game is huge in the early games and gradually declines to the standard number (16 for equal players) once the rating becomes established. At the same time, the points gained or lost by the opponent of a new player is correspondingly reduced, since the rating of the new player is so inaccurate. The point is that there is no need for players to declare their strength this way. Their ratings will reach the proper level fairly quickly, much faster than they do on the current ShogiDojo system. > The level of competition on Shogi 24 is really high. I think he means lower; in other words he means that a Shogi 24 2 Dan would have the strength of a normal club 4 Dan. I'm not sure how much of > this is true and how much of this is simply Japanese "tatemae". From studies comparing ShogiDojo ratings to PanAtlantic (which are comparable to the average Japanese club), I can say that ShogiDojo Dan ranks are two ranks stricter, and kyu ranks are 4-5 ranks stricter. So Mr. Kumei is telling the truth. > Bill Gaudry > Larry Kaufman
