From: Dana B Moreland RAYTHEON COM> Date: 14 oct 2002 Subject: Re: Koya Larry, Here is an explanation of the Koya tie_break system: The elucidation of the Koya System is as follows : (a) If two or more players score the same number of points in a Round Robin tournament, the tie is resolved by taking into account the sum of their scores against the players who have scored 50% or more. If this does not resolve the tie, then Koya System may be extended in the descending priority. Koya System extended : 1) The score of the tied players against the top score group. If this also fails to produce a result then. 2) The score of tied players against the next lower score group. If this also fails to resolve the tie then. 3) The score of tied players against the next score group and so on. This process is to be continued till the tie is resolved. Please see the following web site for an example of this system is practice: http://www.chessindia.org/koya_system.html Dana Moreland Larry Kaufman COMCAST NET> To: SHOGI-L TECHUNIX TECHNION AC IL Sent by: The Shogi cc: Discussion List Subject: Koya TECHUNIX TECH NION.AC.IL> 10/14/2002 11:19 AM Please respond to The Shogi Discussion List A top-level chess tournament with qualifiers just chose the finalists by a tie-break system they called "Koya". A search produced only Japanese sites. I suspect that Koya is a Japanese tie-break system for Shogi; does anyone know what it is and how it works? Larry Kaufman
