Now I see, the problems are two or three levels of pages deeper. You just
have to start clicking on the tabs until you get to the shogi boards with
the problems. Unfortunatly these are very complex problems (20+ moves). So
without any hints or explanations (in english) they are very hard for me to
follow at this point in my shogi playing. I am still very much a beginner.

Why would you need to be able to read japanese at
http://www.ag.wakwak.com/~k-oohasi/shougi/  ? The solution for the
problems is given in the java applets. The only thing you might miss are
eventual hints given in the text or explanations. But the problems are
still solvable. Only that just cheating by clicking through the applet is
so much more tempting then the traditional 'result on different page'. ;-)
