There may be four places where they got the information from: 1) the SHOGI-L membership list at Technion (the SHOGI-L host); 2) the SHOGI-L membership list on Shogi.Net; 3) the SHOGI-L web mirror (where all posting are stored); 4) other mailing lists and groups that mirror SHOGI-L. Possibilities (1) and (2) are related as (2) is nothing more than a copy of (1), ordered by country. I cannot control (1), but individual subscribers can conceal themselves by sending the command "set SHOGI-L conceal" to listserv techunix technion ac il. That mail should come from the e-mail address the subscriber is subscribed with. The result is that you won't be listed on (1) and (2) anymore. The SHOGI-L web mirror (3) serves as an unstructured archive of all messages that were ever posted to SHOGI-L. A significant part of the roughly 2,000 - 9,000 unique hits Shogi.Net gets each day is due to people accessing these archived messages. To avoid that e-mail addresses can be found there, one can either not post to SHOGI-L (but that defies the purpose of a discussion list) or e-mail addresses might be suppressed (assuming this is technically feasible). If people feel strongly about suppressing e-mail addresses on postings, I will take the matter up with the maintainer of the archives. If so, please send mail to me privately at shogi net>. I'll collect all answers and get back to the list. I cannot do anything about possibility (4). There may be several mirrors. Even if I knew who maintains them, I do not how to prevent them from re-publishing SHOGI-L mails, nor would I actually want to. Hope this helps, Pieter Stouten owner Shogi.Net owner SHOGI-L
