From: Eric Cheymol FREE FR> Date: 20 may 2002 Subject: Habu's magical tour in Paris (round 8) Today again, all games have been hard fought : no draw, only decisive results. When I arrived at the tournament hall, Yoshiharu Habu had a very promising game. His pieces were controlling good squares, I thought he had good chances to convert this game to a win. But unfortunately, I coudn't attend the games until the end and I heard later by phone that Yoshiharu lost. This was a bit difficult to believe as Yoshiharu was playing against a low rated player and that he was undefeated with the white pieces. Yoshiharu Habu had a very busy week with always interesting hard fought games. With this loss, all hopes for a IM norm are gone away, and Yoshiharu is equal fourth in the tournament with 4 points out of 8 now. Tomorrow he will play with the back pieces against the strong GM Inkiov who needs a win to hope for a win in the tournament. So this game will be played until the end too. All today games in java or in pgn here : http://www.nao-cc.com/naocc/naofide/part.htm Joel Lautier has translated in english the very insteresting interview of Mark Taimanov. I post it in a different mail. This interview shows haw the strong 76 years old GM Mark Taimanov conducted his chess life and his musical life. This tournament is really a good opportunity for the Japanese to be interested in chess. A chat channel is used to allow every internet spectator to make commentaries about the game. Eloi Relange (a strong french GM chess player) who analyses the games in live, told me that at some point 50 percent of the commentaries were written in japanese !! So many Japanese are interested in Habu's magical tour in Paris. And the games finish around 2h00-4h00 AM Tokyo time ! Due to a misfunction with my ISP, I was not able to update my web site today. Everything is in order now, so I will put photographs of rounds 7 and 8 of the tournament this evening (Paris time).
