From: Thomas Pfaffel HOTMAIL COM> Date: 8 may 2002 Subject: Gert Schnider wins Austrian Shogi Playoff! Dear Shogi Friends! Last weekend the Austrian Shogi Playoff was played in Graz between the 4 top placed Austrian players of the Int. Austrian Shogi Championship. The Format was a knockout system with 2 wins. The Semifinals were won by the favorites Gert Schnider and Thomas Pfaffel, although the games were not that clear. Especially Marco Dietmayer was already close to win against me in the 2nd game and to qualify for the final. The first game of the final was a very close one, as I had already a very good position, but I lost the game after 202 moves (japanese counting). The second game was very fast one by Gert, who has now won his last 21 tournament games in a row (after last years ESC/MSOWC-Tournament) !! So Gert Schnider will be the Austrian representative at the 2nd International Shogi Forum in Tokyo in October. Find below the result table: Semifinals Gr. Elo 1 2 Sum.
