From: Reijer Grimbergen FU IS SAGA-U AC JP> Date: 30 jun 2002 Subject: Re: New SPEAR release Dear Ito-san, Thank you for trying SPEAR. As for your first question: this shouldn't happen when it is your turn to move. The program will refuse to play your moves if it is thinking about its own move or in case of an illegal move. If neither is the case, then you have found a bug. If this happens again, please send me the game and I will try to figure out what went wrong. Hiding and returning will indeed result in displaying a position in the middle of the search. This is a problem I am aware of, but haven't had time to fix (it requires having different boards for the display and the search). When the search finishes the correct position should be displayed when it is your turn to move. Finally, "nodes" is indeed the number of moves the program reads. I forgot to hide this message in the new release. It is not so impressive as it looks, as SPEAR looks at almost all of the moves, so it will not search much deeper than 5 moves ahead even at his highest level.
