If you have a new gnushogi (that's 1.3) it comes with xshogi in the first place. If you have an older one (<=1.2) it does not. Xshogi is a graphical interface for X-Windows, so if you are not a unix/linux/BSD user you can stop reading here and throw it away. Otherwise, you enter the archive directory and read the instructions. Usually it's either: ./configure make all make install provided there is a "configure" script (there is with gnushogi 1.3) or if there's a file "Imakefile" you do xmkmf -a make all make install For linux and BSD, almost every distribution contains precompiled files somewhere. On a recent machine, gnushogi plays pretty decently. Hope this helps Edi
