From: Hugo Hollanders MERIT UNIMAAS NL> Date: 12 dec 2002 Subject: Re: Proposal As already noted before, the yearly European Championships tournament decides who is European Champion. Additional tournaments about deciding who is "strongest" are therefore not needed nor wanted. As we all know there is no such thing as absolute strength. Player A can beat player B as easily today as he can lose tomorrow. So how can any tournament ever decide who is absolutely strongest? Even the recently re-instated European Grand Prix tournament cycle is unsuited for determining a "strong" player, as the geographical spread makes it impossible for anyone to participate in all tournaments. Winning the Grand Prix is therefore most likely reserved for those players who live most centrally in Europe, and not for a "strongest" player in peripheral Europe. He beat Gert Schnider at the latest European Championship and Boris Mirnik at the ISF. SO much about his having not as much success. Playing a championship via internet. Would you ask the same from Habu and Moriuchi?
