From: bogin YAHOO CO JP> Date: 12 dec 2002 Subject: Re: Proposal Dear Mr. Kaufman, That sounds like a interesting idea. But, is it really fair to exclude a person like Reijer Grimbergen just because he has been living in Japan for such a long time? Wouldn't it be better to give him the opportunity to decide whether he would like to participate or not? Obviously, he is one of the strongest Western players out there so excluding him would seem to do such a contest a disservice. Also, instead of traveling all over the world, couldn't such a tournament be held over the Internet. That way, anyone who's not one of the lucky 4 chosen to participate could at least watch on line. No one practically uses the English version of Yahoo! Shogi so couldn't it be used? A neutral arbiter could be chosen and ground rules could be hashed out to everyone's satisfaction. Since it would be a round robin, the only thing you would have to worry about is furigoma and you could leave that up to the arbiter. After that, it will pretty much be straightforward shogi. Would something like that work? Bill Gaudry __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! BB is Broadband by Yahoo! http://bb.yahoo.co.jp/
