From: Carl Johan Nilsson TELIA COM> Date: 6 aug 2002 Subject: Report from Summer Shogi in Goteborg Dear shogi friends, This Saturday the tournament "Summer Shogi" was played outside, at the restaurant Villa Belparc located in the beautiful park Slottsskogen in Goteborg. A blue sky and a perfect temperature of 25 degrees Celcius made the playing conditions outstanding. Of the eleven participants, not less than three players made their first appearance on the shogi scene. These players where Per More, Anders Gustavsson and Laura Thackray who all showed being talented beginners. This by rapidly increasing their strength during the tournament. Per even managed to score 2 points on the 4 rounds to win the price for the best player ranked below 10 kyu. Fighting for the top places where Mikael Jansson, Jonas Ahlqvist, Anders Vidal and me. All players who lately have shown good form in the Swedish championships for teams. It turned out to be Mikael Janssons unlucky day since he failed to win a medal with slightest possible margin; one cumulative point. Jonas Ahlqvist won the bronze medal instead and he also won the prize for being the best 6 - 10 kyu player. After a though final game Anders Vidal had to content himself with the silver medal since he lost the game and the gold medal to me.
